The University of Cincinnati - Langsam Library Patio
Background
After a few years bringing temporary living walls to the University of Cincinnati’s campus, In 2018 Urban Blooms got our first permanent living wall on the patio of Langsam Library. We worked closely with the Universities Landscape Architect, John Martini, to design a project that would be a compliment to the patio redesign that was coming soon at Langsam. Project objectives included creating an outdoor classroom setting and increasing the biodiversity on campus.
Outcome
Urban Blooms’ created a custom 40ft long x 10ft tall Living Wall on the east facing side Langsam Library. This wall features of 45 unique species of plants. The plants chosen are picked for their attraction of pollinators and native qualities. This wall features blooming plants from early April through late September and a hardy base of evergreen that add textures through the winter. All 4 seasons, this living wall has become a favorite photo and learning opportunity for students and faculty alike.
