The BooneBlock - Covington, Ky

Background

Urban Blooms was proud to participate in the Midwest’s first “Living Mural” project in collaboration with the artists of The London Police.  The Boone Block installation in Covington, Kentucky was produced as a memorial to resident Mike Amenn.  Amenn brought artists to the city from around the world as part of a public art movement, including his friends The London Police.  Mike is memorialized at the center of the mural, piloting the entire show.

Outcome

At the base of the mural, amid a whimsical and futuristic landscape, Urban Blooms designed a living wall that complimented the composition’s contours.  Variation in vegetation and planting pattern allow the living wall to create a visual sense of motion.  The Boone Block is a north-facing wall and embellishes the exterior of a revitalized residential building with 350 square feet of green space.  This project was funded by the Catalytic Fund which aims to accelerate urban development and boost the Renaissance of Northern Kentucky.
